Bio

Jessica Colebrooke (nee. Maycock) is the Bahamas’ first female tile manufacturer, The Ministry of Tourism 2015 Cacique Award Winner (for Fine Arts), the leading ceramics manufacturer in New Providence and the Bahamas and the Proprietor of Jessica’s Tileworks Studio Ltd. A graduate of the College of The Bahamas as well as the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Jessica started her souvenir line under JTS back in 1997, straight out of RISD.

Jessica is known as a Ceramicist, producing fine art pottery as well as souvenirs under the Jessica’s Tileworks Studio Ltd. portfolio. Jessica’s evolving souvenir line has existed for over 19 years and it would not take a person more than a minute to realize her love and interest in Marine life. This is partially as a result of the many years Jessica had spent watching her Taxidermy dad go fishing, eat his catch and then preserve the carcasses of those sea creatures he could preserve like water crabs, crawfish (a.k.a spinney lobster) eels, barracudas, starfishes, seashells and so on. Similar motifs of marine and botanical scenery can also be noted in Colebrooke’s Fine Art sculptures such as her wall hangings as well as her African Influences: masks and sculpture.

Colebrooke is a full time artist, a mother or two beautiful girls and the wife of Carlos Colebrooke.

Artist Statement

One of my main objectives is to broaden the creative and industrial potential of ceramics in the Bahamas; not just as an Art form but also as a business.  Additionally, I continue to work towards educating and assisting others with their desire to become a full time ceramicist, bring diversity and growth to this perplexed art form.
