The NAGB Fall/Winter series continues in the New Year, on January 19th, traveling to Southern Italy for the 2008-film 'Gomorrah'. A harsh look at how “the system” is driving most of Italy’s illicit economy and the effect it has on the people and society.
The film, based on the best-selling 2006 nonfiction novel of the same name, features five different stories and how the Camorra, Italy’s largest crime syndicate, touches almost everyone’s lives. Everything from drugs, construction, shipping, waste management and even high fashion fall under the purview of what some people in Italy just call “the system.”
The film brilliantly reveals a tale of pervasive corruption and human chaos. The book, upon which the film is based, created such a stir that the author, Robert Saviano, has been under police protection since 2006.
Gomorrah screens at 7 pm on January 19th. All films are free to attend and to make your experience that much more enjoyable; we will be offering popcorn and refreshments for sale. RSVP to let us know that you'll be watching with us.
