The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas (NAGB) is pleased to announce the return of the annual Mixed Media Art Summer Camp (MMASC). Kids ages 5 to 17 are welcome to participate and learn visual art techniques, explore different avenues of creativity and develop their knowledge of art.

In all we do, let us be generous, fair & loving to Spaceship Earth and all its inhabitants. For we’re All-One or None! All-One!

This year’s summer camp theme is “Spaceship: Planet Earth” branching into four weeks of sustainability-themed creation. The Spaceship Earth theory is one environmentalists and other scientists have long used to discuss the planet as a complex system, one that human beings must aggressively monitor, manage and sometimes reengineer – kind of like a spaceship.

And like any ship, the full cooperation of the crew is required to ensure that our spaceship makes it safely to our destination. This camp is an opportunity for the students to learn artistic techniques to tell the story of the Bahamian environment and create work that gives voice to the economic, environmental and equity-related challenges we face. Moreover, we want to challenge our young artists to give vision to potential solutions through their artwork and inspire much-needed discussions.

As crew members on the NAGB’s Mixed Media Art Summer Camp ship, your young artist will work with their instructors, counsellors and other NAGB staff to explore new and classic artistic techniques. Each week will take the campers on a journey through resources in The Bahamas related to “Land” in week one; “Water” in week two; “Air” in week three; and “Cosmic Futures” in week four. Join us on this journey of discovery as we explore the outer reaches of the important role that art plays in the on-going health of our spaceship earth.

Campers will be divided into three age groups: 5-7 years, 8-12 years and 13-17 years. This allows for a comprehensive learning experience that takes age specific developmental stages into account. Work from the National Collection of The Bahamas that relates to each theme will be used as teaching aids.

WHEN TO SHOW UP

Camp will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Friday. Please pick your camper up on time. At 4 p.m., you will incur a fee of $10.00 every thirty minutes that you are tardy. If there is an emergency, please notify us, immediately.

WHAT TO BRING

A great attitude! At the MMASC, we value your child and work to provide a fun and safe environment for them to explore in. However, we need each campers’ help. Our NO BULLY Zone policy is designed to ensure that every MMASC participant has an awesome art summer adventure.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

The Mixed Media Art Summer Camp will provide all the necessary materials, equipment and instructors, as well as a snack at mid-morning. Lunch is provided. However, if your camper has strict dietary restrictions or allergies, we recommend that you pack their lunch. Each camper will be provided with two T-shirts. Additional shirts will be available for purchase.
