The Blank Canvas: July 26th featuring Da Spot 242

Holly Bynoe

On tomorrow night’s “Blank Canvas,” Amanda is joined in the studio by members of “Da Spot 242,” the comedy improv troupe including  Garsekani Nash (far left), Erin Greene (middle), Candy Rigby (second from right) and Gianno Wallace (far right).

The group—which includes more than 20 members—has been performing together for 12 seasons for over 15 years and has a regular spot on Cable 12 (Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m.), as well as live performances. Getting ready for upcoming dates booked at the Winston V. Saunders Theatre (formerly the Dundas) on Mackey Street, on two consecutive Saturdays in August (12th and 19th), the members join us in the studio to speak about improv and what it means to them and the greater community.

Outside of finding “the funny,” the group sees comedy as a way of dealing with our reality and as a means for making social commentary in a way that is palatable and non-confrontational so that audiences might be able to recognise themselves and change behaviour or find ways to cope. Tickets for both evenings are $20  and available at the theatre’s box office.

Blank Canvas airs every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on Guardian Talk Radio 96.9 FM
