SUMMARY:The Intersection of Art and National Political Development
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, January 4\, 2024\, at 6:00 pm for a panel discussion on the intersection of art and national political development. We will also be launching Dr. Stephen Aranha’s new book\, “The New Democratic Franchise”\, which traces the development of “Majority Rule” in the colony and post-colony. The book covers the beginning and end of the plural company vote and highlights how much has changed and how little has been altered in this context. \nWe will explore the backdrop of some of the artwork produced by artists of that day\, which speak to or highlight the struggle for national self-identification. The panelists include Dr. Stephen Aranha from the Max Plank Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory in Germany\, Keisha Ellis from UB and Hands for Hunger\, Amaani Hepburn\, NAGB Curatorial Assistant\, and Dr. Ian Bethell Bennett\, NAGB Interim Executive Director. We hope you can join us for this exciting event.
