On September 26th, 2017 from 6 pm - 7:30 pm the NAGB invites you to our Conversation Series, “From Shallow Seas and Deep Hearts,” which highlights our Project Space Exhibition showcasing a collection of short documentaries by Settler’s Cove Productions.
Under the directorship of NL Aubrey Smith, the compendium of seven short documentaries features poignant Bahamian testimonies and expands upon several young emerging creatives, sports enthusiasts, musicians and activists, all of whom are working towards presenting an authentic understanding of their Bahamianness. They wade through the murk and dredge up something fluid, poetic and beautiful about their everyday experiences.
Hardships are celebrated. Silences are snuffed out; self-consciousness is used as a narrative device. Narratives and stories are powerful and stay true the course of the quest to present diverse and multi-generational voices, which lend to the tradition of “holding space for all”. We will get to the marrow of how our communities keep care; how our creative minds find the space and opportunities to flourish and keep accountability intact.
The conversation “From Shallow Seas and Deep Hearts,” will include Adrian D’Aguilar, Noelle Nicholls, DC Pratt and director NL Aubrey Smith. Smith will premiere several new pieces and re-edits at the ending of the evening’s conversation.
The event is free and open to the public.
