Tonight we are re-airing an earlier show as the NAGB team works to support our brothers and sisters who have suffered in the wake of Dorian. We are operating as a donation site as well as a safe space for healing, respite and sanctuary. The NAGB will also be FREE for the month of September!

David Scott, founder and editor of Small Axe journal; Professor and Chair of Anthropology at Columbia University, (centre) and Juliet Ali, artist and graphic designer, lead designer for Small Axe, (right) recently visited The Bahamas and the “Blank Canvas” studio from New York.

Scott discusses the birth of the Small Axe journal—a publication that focuses Caribbean writing, criticism, and art—and how the project grew to encompass an expansive website, projects, symposia and art exhibitions, such as the “Visual Life of Social Affection” (VLoSA), the current exhibition at NAGB, curated by the NAGB’s founding Director, Dr Erica James. Ali speaks to the visual aspects of creating the journal and its branding, as it changed over time and incorporated its expanded concepts.

Blank Canvas airs every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on Guardian Talk Radio, 96.9 FM.
