Yesterday, April 29, saw the opening of “Overseas: Cuba and The Bahamas, Contemporary Art from the Caribbean” in Leipzig, Germany, including work by Bahamian artists:
John Beadle, Blue Curry, Kendra Frorup, Tamika Galanis, Arnold J. Kemp, Dominique Knowles, Anina Major, Jace Mckinney, Jeffrey Meris, Kareem Mortimer, Angelique V. Nixon, Holly Parotti, Lynn Parotti, Khia Poitier, Antonius Roberts, Heino Schmid, Steven Schmid, Dave Smith, Gio Swaby, Tessa Whitehead and Natalie Willis.
Thanks to Michael Artzt and the team at HALLE 14 – Zentrum für zeitgenössische Kunst, Stiftung Federkiel/ Karsten Schmitz for their dedication to this project; to Galerie Ernst Hilger for supporting the shipment of many of these works to Europe last year; to co-curators Holly Bynoe and Antonio Eligio (Tonel) for putting together an entirely new, stunning exhibition bringing new insight into Caribbean production; to the Ministry of Tourism for supporting a travel stipend; and to the collaborators, who put together NE6 (John Cox) and NE7 (Holly and Michael Edwards), where many of these works were exhibited at home.
