This week in the studio with Amanda are agitators, researchers, and facilitators whose work intersects with artistic practice in the realm of “social sculpture.”
Peri Redwood (credited as Jon Murray in this episode), a Bahamian based in New York and recent Hunter University graduate, presents part of their larger project under The Commission of The Queer. Their NE8 contribution, An Exhibition of Queer Findings From the Royal Bahamian Empire, explores global Bahamian identities shaped by discriminatory attitudes and laws.
Hilary Booker, the first Artist/Researcher in residence for a National Exhibition, is creating The Moonflower Room at Hillside House. With a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies, Hilary draws on years of research in The Bahamas to develop an edible cartography that fosters healing, communal dining, and storytelling.
Both artists discuss their projects and how art, research, food, and narrative can build connections across diverse communities.
