On today’s episode of the Blank Canvas, host Amanda Coulson, is joined in the studio by NAGB Chief Curator, Holly Bynoe and practicing artist Jeffrey Meris to speak about their involvement in “Ubersee/Overseas: The Bahamas and Cuba, Contemporary Art from the Caribbean,” curated by Bynoe and Cuban independent curator, Tonel. The show which supports the work of 38 artists, specifically 20 Bahamian artists, is on view at Halle 14 through August 6th in Leipzig, Germany.
The exhibition contains works that had previously been shown at the NAGB in NE6, NE7 and the latest iteration, NE8, and includes new works by Bahamian artists. Three artists travelled to create and install work for the exhibition: Lynn Parotti, Blue Curry and Jeffrey Meris. Meris, who participated in a two and a half week residency during his stay, shares the experience of living in Germany and his approach to creating a site-specific work for Ubersee.
The “Blank Canvas” is hosted by Amanda Coulson, Director of the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas, and airs every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on Guardian Talk Radio 96.9 FM
