It’s all about being “Tru-Tru” on this week’s “Blank Canvas.” In the studio with Amanda are (left) Suzanne Pattusch, the Executive Vice President of the Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) and (right) Angelique McKay, Founder and CEO of the Junkanoo Commandoes, talking about the upcoming “Tru-Tru Bahamian Festival” that takes place at John Watlings Distillery on Delancy Street, Saturday and Sunday, February 3rd and 4th, 2018.
Suzanne talks about how the idea came about to create a festival that would focus on Bahamian culture in its entirety—including food, dance, fashion, music, arts and crafts and even pastimes from a bygone era. While we have a myriad of festivals, many centre on one thing. Suzanne sought to embrace the plethora of things that make us Bahamian and have a showcase for hotels, visitors and Bahamians alike.
The music line-up alone will be incredible, with all-Bahamian artists, such as D-Mac and others, and Angelique’s group, the Junkanoo Commandoes, who will close out the event with a Junkanoo rush-out. They will also be building a temporary Junkanoo Shack for the daytime period so kids and families can experience shack life.
