This week on Blank Canvas, Amanda Coulson hosts members of the Bahamian contingent who attended Tilting Axis, the pan-Caribbean conference for art professionals, held this year at the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands.
Conceived by NAGB Chief Curator Holly Bynoe (while publisher of ARC Magazine) and Annalee Davis of Fresh Milk Art Platform in Barbados, Tilting Axis is a roving conference that began in Barbados, then Miami, and now in its third year has grown into a major platform for regional practitioners. Its goal: to negotiate strategic alliances for infrastructure, production, and markets for Caribbean visual arts.
This year’s theme, Curating the Caribbean, brought together curators, museum professionals, academics, and cultural workers from across and beyond the region to foster collaboration and global visibility for Caribbean art.
Representing The Bahamas were Amanda Coulson, Holly Bynoe, and artists Blue Curry (currently on residency in Cayman), Tessa Whitehead, and Heino Schmid. Heino and Tessa join Amanda in the studio to share their experience.
