Tonight on Blank Canvas, Amanda Coulson returns with international guest Trevor Schoonmaker, Chief Curator at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University and Artistic Director of this year’s Prospect New Orleans Triennale.
Trevor shares his early engagement with contemporary African art, having lived and studied on the continent long before global interest surged. His explorations in the 1990s positioned him as a leading U.S. expert, later shaping landmark exhibitions such as Birth of the Cool(2008) with Barkley L. Hendricks and A Fantastic Journey (2013–14) with Wangechi Mutu.
We also discuss his role at Prospect New Orleans, opening in November, and his visit to The Bahamas—at NAGB’s invitation—to connect with local artists and explore our art scene.
