National Exhibition 3 Catalogue

Out of print

This National Exhibition featured twenty-three artists and thirty-five works, representing a notable shift in both scale and media. While smaller than previous editions, the exhibition presented a broader range of practices, with increased representation of sculpture, installation and conceptual work, and fewer paintings overall. Nearly half of the exhibiting artists were participating in the National Exhibition for the first time.

The exhibition was curated by Krista Thompson, PhD, and developed through a formal call and review process. The review team included Pippa Vlasov, John Beadle and Anthony Jervis. The selection emphasised critical engagement, technical consideration and dialogue within contemporary art practice in The Bahamas.

As articulated by Director and Chief Curator Erica James, the exhibition was intended to stimulate discussion and reflection on the nature and direction of Bahamian artistic production, while reinforcing the educational mission of the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas.
