NE5 marked the first themed National Exhibition at the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas, inviting artists to respond to the question, “What is your carbon footprint?” Presented in the wake of environmental disasters such as the 2010 Haiti earthquake and the BP oil spill, the exhibition confronted the planet’s reaction to human activity and called for a renewed sense of ecological responsibility.
Reflecting its environmental focus, the accompanying catalogue was produced entirely in digital format and distributed on USB drives rather than printed, underscoring the show’s commitment to sustainability. Featuring 23 artists exploring climate change, consumption, and material use, NE5 positioned Bahamian art within a global conversation on environmental consciousness and the impact of collective action.
