Tanicia Pratt presents Blow the Whistle, a three-channel film installation that interrogates sexuality, violence, and bodily autonomy through a poetic and sonic lens. The work responds to The Bahamas’ staggering rates of gender-based violence, using the whistle as both a literal and symbolic alarm—one that haunts, warns, and calls for justice.

Blending original poetry with experimental film techniques, Pratt remixes two of her written works, “Junkanoo Mornin’” and “Clippings of Teen Girl”, to navigate the intersections of celebration, power, and systemic failure. Drawing from Junkanoo’s rebellious spirit and the rhythmic urgency of news reports, Blow the Whistle layers sound, text, and movement to challenge whose voices are heard and whose stories are silenced.

Blow the Whistle is organised by Letitia Pratt, Associate Curator.

At the artist’s request, special thanks are extended to Barabbas and The Tribe Junkanoo Organization, Dorien Rose, Eddion Whyms, Leex Coakley, Reagan Kemp, Ria Georgina, Justin Moultrie, Junkanoo World, Princess Pratt, and Sonia Farmer & Poinciana Paper Press.

About the Artist

Tanicia Pratt is an interdisciplinary poet, writer and performing artist. She began her career in Nassau’s underground poetry scene, dedicating years to spoken word performance before relocating to London to study experimental poetics.

Writing through the body, Pratt views her practice as a spiritual act that creates space for divine connection, introspection, transformation, and ancestral reverence. Pratt’s work is heart-centred, seeking to understand Love and lack thereof – its manifestations, variations, and its lasting impact on society and the environment. Her latest collection, BLUE has been collected by The National Poetry Library of England. Thus far, her writings and performances have been featured in many international outlets including Write About Now, Ormsby Hall Kingston, Marché de la Poesie, HKW (Middle Ground) Berlin, Bad Form, Soeurs, POUI, and more.
