Inter-Island Travelling Exhibition

The Inter-Island Travelling Exhibition (ITE) is a rotating exhibition featuring selections from the National Collection—the NAGB’s permanent collection—that travels annually to select Family Islands. The NAGB firmly believes that art must be accessible to all, and that our programming should meet communities where they are, making the National Collection truly national in reach.

Launched in 2015, the ITE was created in response to the geographic challenges of our archipelagic nation and the lack of access to cultural resources for many Family Island residents. The NAGB team works in close partnership with community members—educators, librarians, artists, and local leaders—to implement each programme with care, offering a full slate of events including curator-led tours, artist talks, workshops, and more.

ITE is a collaborative outreach initiative that brings together all museum departments. It now includes our mural programme, school visits, and access to educational materials. During each visit, the NAGB donates catalogues and art supplies, sharing knowledge and ways to stay connected. All programmes are free and open to the public.

Art that belongs to all of us, shared with all of us

Each ITE trip kicks off with an exhibition opening, often in an unconventional space. Speakers from the NAGB and the local community come together to celebrate the artworks and enjoy conversation about culture, creativity, and belonging. All are welcome to attend.

We offer guided tours for schools and the wider public, typically shaped around three core themes: sustainability, art history, and cultural connections. Explore how artists work, connect visual storytelling with writing and other disciplines, and dive into the ideas behind the art.

Tours support curriculum-based learning while encouraging cross-disciplinary thinking. While we try to reach all schools during each ITE trip, we may not always be able to accommodate everyone. If you’d like to arrange a visit, please reach out to our Community Outreach Officer, Zearier Munroe-Wilkinson, at zwilkinson@nagb.org.bs. ↗

Our student workshops engage youth in grades 4–12 through immersive, culturally specific art activities. Students learn about Bahamian artists in the National Collection and explore new artistic skills and techniques. Each session is adaptable to the needs and capabilities of participating students.
Adults can learn new skills too! Everyone in the community is invited to visit the exhibition, get inspired, and create something of their own. These relaxed, hands-on sessions are a chance to connect, experiment, and enjoy artmaking together.

Led by local artists, our Mural Programme brings students and community members together to co-create public artwork. From design to painting, everyone is invited to be part of the process. These murals become lasting symbols of collaboration, pride, and place. This programme extends our Nassau efforts to the Family Islands, making you a part of the creative journey!
Join a lively discussion with the exhibition’s curators and community voices as they explore key themes in the show. These talks often end with an open Q&A session, where ideas flow and connections are made—linking island perspectives with the broader national conversation.
