Blank Canvas: October 4, 2017, Kareem Mortimer

“Blank Canvas” hosts Bahamian filmmaker Kareem Mortimer, who is premiering his new full-length feature “Cargo” in The Bahamas, at a red carpet event at Atlantis on October 19th.

Seven years in the making, “Cargo,”was written, developed, and produced in The Bahamas and is the biggest undertaking by a Bahamian filmmaker to date. It is based on the 10-time award-winning short film “Passage,” which was screened at the NAGB in 2013.

Inspired by true events, the story follows a fisherman who turns to human smuggling to raise the desperately needed funds to cover his son’s school fees and provide basic care for his family. Kareem discusses the creation of the film from conception to completion, and delves into a narrative that is global in its relevance.

Join us both on “Blank Canvas” to hear Kareem’s story and also at Atlantis on October 19th to celebrate this Bahamian filmmaker. Tickets for the premiere (6:00 p.m. Red Carpet; 7:30 p.m. Film) can be purchased at the NAGB, Doongalik or at www.cargopremiere.com.

“Blank Canvas” airs every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on Guardian Talk radio 96.9 F.M.
