The Blank Canvas: April 19, George V. Cox and John Cox

Curator and practicing artist John Cox stands in for our regular host Amanda Coulson and discusses with his father George V. Cox ideas around the upcoming experimental project “The Unseen Structure,” which will be on view in the ballroom of the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas from April 27 through July 2.

They dialogue on the elder Cox’s engineering practice, which is often an invisible hand, and speak about various national projects including the NIB building and the work on the Glass Window bridge in Eleuthera. Both of them share a passion and connect on the intellectual concepts that makes this work possible, along with wider collaborations. Cox senior—who wa s instrumental in the NAGB’s restoration—also takes us on a trip down memory lane, recounting past colleagues, partners and others that constitute the wider Bahamian architecture industry.

“The Unseen Structure” opens at the gallery on April 27 at 6:30 pm.. and will feature the work of numerous creatives. The backbone and underbelly of the civil engineering practice are revealed as something mysterious, connective and widespread.

Tune in this evening at 6:30 p.m to hear them talk on Guardian Talk Radio!
