Blank Canvas: October 24, 2018, Sasha Dees

On tonight’s Blank Canvas NAGB Executive Director Amanda Coulson welcomes roving curator and cultural producer, Sasha Dees into the studio.

Dees is a Dutch national who has produced cultural events all over the world. Dees lives for the arts, she is a world citizen, a connector. International, Interdisciplinary and Innovative are key elements in her work. She founded her production company in 1998 and has worked as an independent producer, curator and writer in all art disciplines ever since. Dees works with numerous artists and art-organizations internationally; programming and scouting talent for venues and festivals as well as advising on projects, exchanges and collaborations.

Having spent much time in parts of the Dutch Caribbean—most specifically Suriname and Curaçao—she also started to travel to other parts of the region, largely the Anglophone Caribbean and became more and more fascinated. Beginning in November of 2017, she embarked on a year-long research journey to go to all parts—Spanish and French, as well–and is currently in The Bahamas, where she has been meeting witn artists and other cultural producers.
