Blank Canvas: June 13, 2018, Nicole Yip

Visiting from Glasgow, Scotland, is Nicole Yip, a curator, writer and currently the director of Lux Scotland, who joins our host Amanda Coulson on this week’s Blank Canvas.

Lux is an international arts agency that supports and promotes artists’ moving image practices and the ideas that surround them. A non-profit founded in 2002, Lux represents a huge video and film archive and works with other institutions—such as museums, galleries, festivals and educational establishments—to distribute, exhibit, publish and educate. The agency also offers professional development for artists and arts professionals.

Yip is visiting The Bahamas in her capacity of curator of a special film series accompanying the NAGB’s current exhibition “We Suffer to Remain.” Traversing a deep history of transatlantic captivity, this four-part film series places contemporary voices alongside more established positions in an attempt to map the pathology of colonisation and the subsequent consequences of decolonisation across generations.

“Poetics of the Undercommons,” the second in this series of special film nights, takes place on Thursday, July 14th, at 8 p.m. in Fiona’s Theatre at the NAGB.

The NAGB’s Blank Canvas airs every Wednesday on Guardian talk Radio 96.9FM at 6:30 p.m.
