Blank Canvas: September 26, 2018, E. Clement Bethel National Arts Festival

Bringing a bit of flair and vivacity into the Blank Canvas studio this week is vocalist and Cultural Officer at the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture Sonovia (Novie) Pierre, who, along with Katrina Cartwright, NAGB Education Officer and Abby Smith, NAGB Community Outreach Officer, joins Amanda Coulson in the Blank Canvas studio to speak about the upcoming exhibition and awards ceremony and performance for the E. Clement Bethel National Arts Festival.

All three guests discuss the partnership between the Department of Culture and the NAGB, which is now in its second year, and reflect on the joys and challenges of administering one of the largest government-led cultural initiatives in an archipelago. Now in its 59th year the E. Clement Bethel National Arts Festival is the only festival in The Bahamas that provides a platform for Bahamians and residents of all ages to showcase their artistic talents in all of the art disciplines.

The 2018 festival comes to a close with much pomp and circumstance at an awards ceremony that features performances by the winners in each category on Thursday, September 27th at Bahamar’s Convention Center at 7 p.m. Grand Bahama is also having its very own awards ceremony at the Hilton Outten Convention Center at 11 p.m. on the same day! To round out both of these exciting events is an exhibition at The Current at Bahamar on Friday, September 28th at 6 p.m. that showcases the highest scoring entries for the Arts and Crafts category. All of these events are free and open to the public.

Tune in and join the conversation! Blank Canvas airs every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on 96.9 FM.
