Tonight on Blank Canvas, host Amanda Coulson is in the studio with artist Lavar Munroe talking about his upcoming exhibition “Lavar Munroe: Son of the Soil, a 10-year Survey” which is opening at the NAGB on Thursday, September 13th.
A true son of the soil, Munroe hails from Grants Town, a community that he has stayed connected to while maintaining a practice in the US. His work straddles the line between painting, sculpture and installation, challenging narratives around survival, loss and trauma. The exhibition features over 50 works created from 2008- 2018, which focus on the evolution of Munroe’s creative practice and highlight works which haven’t been showcased before in the Bahamas.
Join us at the opening reception tomorrow to experience the work of one of our brightest native sons. The exhibition will be on view until December 2nd, 2018.
Tune in to listen to the conversation! The Blank Canvas airs weekly on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. on Guardian radio 96.9 FM.
