The Current at Baha Mar is back in the Blank Canvas studio!
Kevin Taylor (filmmaker, far left), Jordanna Kelly (Studio and Gallery Manager, second from right) and Keith Thompson (Studio and Gallery Coordinator, far right) speak with Amanda Coulson (Director, NAGB) about the experience of taking The Current art gallery from Baha Mar to the VOLTA NY art fair in New York City. From planning their show, to crating, logistics, installing and experiencing—for the first time—a major art event of this nature, the team talk about the difficulties encountered, inspiration found and observations made during that week.
The team will also be announcing the winner of the first ever Baha Mar @ VOLTA art prize, awarded to one of the artists at the solo-project art fair. The prize consists of the purchase of one work to join the Baha Mar art collection, which already contains almost 2,000 pieces of Bahamian art, and will be the first international piece in the collection. The winning artist will also come for a 4-6 week residency, during which time they will give a lecture, meet with UB art students, conduct research and create work. The idea is to engender networks, contacts and exchange that will benefit Bahamian artists in reaching international audiences.
Blank Canvas airs every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on Guardian Talk Radio, 96.9 FM.
