On this week’s “Blank Canvas” we are hosting an array of folks representing our local art scene, who are all working on the 14th edition of “Transforming Spaces,” the annual art bus tour, taking place on Saturday and Sunday, March 17 and 18. Four galleries are represented this year: D’Aguilar Art Foundation (DAF), Doongalik Studios, Hillside House, and for the very first time, The Current at Baha Mar.
Allan Wallace (pictured far left) is the featured artist at the DAF in an exhibition entitled, “MUSE: Malone & Pachino,” for which Wallace produced new works in response to the work of the late Brent Malone, which will also be on view. Keisha Oliver (second from left), Assistant Professor at UB, is working with her colleague Heino Schmid (not pictured) to create a “happening” at Antonius Roberts’ Hillside House. Natascha Vasquez (second from right) Programme Coordinator at The Current at Baha Mar speaks to their first time being a part of “Transforming Spaces,” hosting a double presentation: an exhibition “Instinct II,” which showcases 10 artists and a second solo exhibition, by Gio Swaby, entitled “Rooted: An Exploratory Celebration of Blackness, Hair and Womanhood.”
Doongalik Studios is focusing on a Junkanoo-themed exhibition entitled “JUNKANOO – A Celebration of Life” featuring artwork by Jujukanoo; a pop-up shack organized by the Junkanoo Commandoes; and an educational exhibition of “Junkanoo – Past, Present, and towards a new Future.”
