Blank Canvas: June 28th, 2023 featuring KEEYA

On this week’s Blank Canvas, our host Amard Rolle is joined by multidisciplinary artist KEEYA, artist-in-residence at The Current: Baha Mar Gallery. The debut solo exhibition of new works by KEEYA, “YOU CAN’T KILL ME,” will open Friday, June 30, from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm in The Current Gallery & Art Center directly beneath the Grand Hyatt valet.

“Online and in the world, identity politics have taken a new kind of center stage. This body of work, like all of my work, is an exploration of identity – how it is grafted onto us and how we create it for ourselves. I am interested in disrupting the way we talk about how Blackness and resilience relate to each other. Mainstream narratives about Black femme resilience are framed around pain, on how much you can endure, how much you are willing to suffer. This work celebrates resilience that is born out of and sustained by joy, care, and pleasure.”

The Current galleries are open Sunday to Wednesday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Thursday to Saturday, 10:00 am to 10:00 pm. Contact them for information on their offerings at +1 (242) 788-8827 and [email protected] or visit their website at thecurrent.bahamar.com.
