Overview

Work with us this summer as a Camp Teacher and inspire the next generation of artists! This role offers a unique opportunity to teach in a dynamic, informal setting that encourages creativity, experimentation, and self-expression. As a Summer Camp Teacher, you’ll guide campers through hands-on projects, helping them develop their artistic skills while ensuring they stay on track for the final student exhibition at the end of camp.

Responsibilities

You’ll be assigned to one of the following age groups: 5–7, 8–11, 12–14, or 15–17. While we aim to match teachers with their preferred group, flexibility is key, and we ask that all teachers remain open to working with different age ranges.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Classroom Environment: Create an inclusive, supportive, and engaging space for all campers.

  • Curriculum Delivery: Implement the NAGB-provided curriculum to foster creativity and skill development.

  • Classroom Management: Maintain a productive, orderly, and enjoyable dynamic to support learning.

  • Individual Guidance: Assist campers in completing at least one major project per session.

  • Team Collaboration: Work with a camp counsellor and NAGB staff to ensure smooth instruction.

  • Special Activities: Assist campers in mural painting, special workshops, and field trips outside of regular class time.

  • Commitment and Punctuality: Arrive at the museum by 8 am and stay until 4 pm, Monday–Friday.

  • Safety and Supervision: Maintain a secure environment and provide attentive guidance.

Experience

At least one year of teaching experience is required. Trained teachers are preferred, but educators from all backgrounds are welcome. While you don’t need to be an art teacher, some technical art skills are necessary for this role.

About the Mixed Media Art Summer Camp

The Mixed Media Art Summer Camp (MMASC) is designed to provide all children (ages 5–17) with access to Bahamian art and history—areas often overlooked in standard curricula. Through hands-on learning, campers explore various artistic techniques while developing critical thinking and social-emotional skills.

MMASC runs in two, two-week sessions beginning in July, culminating in a final exhibition that showcases each camper’s artistic journey. The camp also introduces young artists to potential careers in the visual arts, expanding their creative and professional horizons.
