In celebration of the tenth anniversary of the NAGB’s Art Summer Camp, this year’s exhibition highlights the vibrant creativity of young artists as they explore the vital relationship between people and the sea. Through a series of hands-on lessons and group activities, campers reflected on how local communities rely on the ocean for recreation, culture, and commerce. They learned how the sea supports daily life through activities like swimming, sailing, and fishing, while also serving as a historic route for trade and transportation that has long connected our islands.
With a focus on sustainability and environmental stewardship, campers were encouraged to think critically about the importance of protecting our marine ecosystems. Drawing from these ideas, they created original artworks using a range of media and techniques, inspired by the beauty, power, and cultural significance of the ocean. The works on view celebrate both the personal and collective connections Bahamians share with the sea, offering thoughtful reflections on our responsibility to preserve it for generations to come.
