The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas is bringing a busy 2018 to a close with an amazing line up of activities and events that will appeal to holiday recreation seekers of all ages. Beginning on December 7th with a free live Willis and The Illest concert and ending with musical sweetness of Jazz Etc. on December 21st, the NAGB is giving residents and visitors alike a selection of options to engage and access the museum in ways that are comfortable and interesting to them.
Originally scheduled for November 16th, 2018, Willis and The Illest brings a free live performance to the NAGB as a part of “A Season @ Fiona’s Theatre” on its new date Friday, December 7th, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. Willis and The Illest is a dub-style reggae band fusing rock, hip-hop, jazz and other genres into its musical sound, spreading peace, love and unity through their soulful, energetic performances. The theatre is going to fill up quickly so make sure you arrive early to secure your seat!
This is followed by a completely kid-friendly activity on Saturday, December 8th that is all about ushering in the Christmas season at the NAGB. The museum will welcome over 60 children 15 years and under to its campus during a special Arternoon, just for kids, that is all about colour and prints! Create a design, use it to make a one of a kind batik placemat, then show it off to family and friend. There will be a Christmas tree to decorate, lunch and a few surprises. To register visit the NAGB’s website at nagb.org.bs, follow the museum on Facebook or Instagram or call 328-5800.
We bring you back into the NAGB’s galleries on December 13th, 2018 at 6 p.m. for the opening of the 9th National Exhibition (NE9), supporting the work of over 30 Bahamian artists under the title “The Fruit & the Seed. A socially curious project, “The Fruit and the Seed” focuses on how artists are working to define their space and experiences. The incredible energy and creativity around the NE9 continues on Saturday, December 15th as a part of Fiona’s Season with an artists’ talk and performances featuring several key artists whose works centrally address the themes put forward by the exhibition.
Of course the weekend following an auspicious event like our biennial National Exhibition would not be complete without a special holiday tour on December 16th, which marks the end of the NAGB’s free fourth Sunday tours for 2018. For those who may not be able to attend the opening reception, or who may want more time to absorb and interact with the work, this tour is the perfect excuse to visit the museum on a Sunday evening and bring a friend!
Our final December event is just for jazz lovers and those seeking a little down time from the madness of the holidays. We’re ending 2018’s “A Season @ Fiona’s Theatre” with the smooth sounds of Jazz Etc. on Friday, December 21st beginning at 7:30 p.m. Make it a date night, add it to the itinerary of visiting friends and relatives and join us for a relaxed evening that is all about an authentic, passionate, musical experience.
