Double Dutch Opening

Join us as we celebrate the opening of one of our new fall exhibitions on Tuesday, November 2nd at 6:30 p.m “Double Dutch”, which features Bahamian artist Tamika Galanis and Trinidadian artist, Rodell Warner. The event is free and open to the public, however COVID-19 emergency protocols for social distancing will be strictly enforced. Proof of vaccination is required. Please register your planned attendance time via the button below. Double Dutch brings together artists from the region and diaspora to produce provocative bodies of work through collaboration and exchange. The project works against ideas of nationalism and the insularity of our creative environs by creating an experimental hub to explore regional and diasporic culture, our creative acumen and sensibilities. For this 8th iteration of the Double Dutch exhibitions, Tamika Galanis and Rodell Warner investigate what archival photography means in the Caribbean space. Presented with the spirits of ancestors and silk-cotton trees who have borne witness to the shifting physical and social landscapes in this space, Galanis and Warner give us room to question how the colonially manufactured view of our past as a region has shaped the ways in which we know - or, perhaps more importantly, don't know - ourselves in the contemporary.

Evolution of the Arc – Virtual Panel Discussion

Join the conversation with the artists of “Evolution of the Arc” as they discuss key themes in their work including issues around tourism, exploitation and Hurricane Dorian - while coming to grips with our colonial past. Utilizing digital media, photography, paint, organic material and found objects, the artists communicate their thoughts in a unique and thoughtful manner, creating space for critical dialogue and introspection. This is the first of two-panel discussions that will be hosted by the NAGB with “Evolution of the Arc” artists. Wherever you may be, log on at 6:30 p.m. this Friday for an evening of great conversation and thoughtful debate. ITE: “From Time: Water Has A Perfect Memory”

The NAGB’s Inter-Island Traveling Exhibition (ITE) is back! It is a pleasure to, again, invite you to experience the virtual exhibition “From Time: Water Has A Perfect Memory”. Originally curated  with our Family Island audience in mind, it is now made available to you, no matter your location. This is the final virtual appearance of this exhibition for the general public. This exhibition, “From Time: Water Has A Perfect Memory”, functions in some ways as a time capsule. It uses historical knowledge and the visual interpretations to engage with the country’s past and present while envisioning a more hopeful future. The exhibition “From Time” opens virtually on Monday, November 22nd, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. The curators have dissected our national identity as it exists now and as it has evolved through time. “From Time” draws on works from the National Collection to prompt our thoughts on pressing issues of sustainability, environment, evolution and future-building in our beloved Bahamian and Caribbean space. We are challenged to begin to consider the meaning of history and archives on our own terms and to dare to imagine an abundant and inclusive afro-future. You are invited to engage with the interactive virtual exhibition through our website. “From Time” will remain open through January 23rd, 2022.
