Fluid Art Practices: Curatorship & Visual Art as Activism

Grades 7-12

Art isn’t just objects on walls—it’s curation, activism, education, and community-building. Students explore how artists like Antonius Roberts move fluidly between roles, using their practice to spark social change and environmental awareness.

What students learn:

  • Art as activism and social practice
  • The role of curators in shaping narratives
  • How artists engage communities beyond the studio
  • Developing their own activist art concepts

Materials needed:

  • Research materials (internet access, books, articles)
  • Presentation tools (poster board, digital slides, etc.)
  • Art-making materials (student choice based on project direction)

Time: 4-6 class periods

Interdisciplinary connections: Social Studies (activism, social movements), Environmental Science (conservation), Civics (community engagement)
