Taking inspiration from the work of Antonius Roberts, this talk explores a range of artistic practices that use (and abuse) the genre of the monument in order to confront the ecological challenges that today face the Caribbean and the planet at large.
Ranging from commemorative forms of conservation, to green varieties of vandalism, the creative strategies explored in this presentation will be seen to generate spaces of collective reflection and reckoning with questions of sovereignty and sustainability that increasingly shape local as well as global perceptions of the future.
