Coinciding with the Open Studios taking place at The Current at Baha Mar on Wednesday evening, May 23rd between 6 – 8 p.m., Blank Canvas hosts the latest batch of Bahamian artists-in-residence.
Theodore Elyett, (not in photo) a fashion designer, speaks about his work in general and some more specific projects, including the dress he created at the studios, which went from The Current in New Providence to Buckingham Palace in the UK. Drew Weech, (far left) a multi media artist who paints, sculpts, takes photographs, speaks about his series of works focusing on Bahamian culture and how, in fact, his studio mate Elyett was able to pitch in with his sewing skills! Tina Klonaris (second from right), is the newest artist in the group—having painted for only three years—and speaks to how much she has learned from both The Current staff and fellow studio mates, like Sue Katz, (right) who is the longest studio resident to-date, having been there since October of last year, working on a large commission for Baha Mar, among other things.
All the residents speak about the positive experience of being creative in a supportive environment, the inspiration of being surrounded by colleagues and in particular, fellow Bahamians.
