Open Call: The Pink Guardian of Paradise Park

New Deadline: Jun 1, 2024

Are you ready to embark on a mission that challenges the status quo and sparks a wave of change? Tin Ferl—in collaboration with the NAGB, Sand Dollar, and New Providence Ecology Park—invites you to dive deep into the heart of artistic expression and environmental advocacy through our sculpture project.
THE MISSION:
We’re on a quest to revolutionize perceptions and ignite conversations about ocean plastics in The Bahamas. Do you feel any guilt when you throw away food packaging? Well, we do and we want to plant this seed for all Bahamians.  We’re seeking artists bold enough to harness the power of creativity and transform upcycled and recycled plastics and other innovative materials into awe-inspiring works of art that tell the story of our oceans.

THE CHALLENGE:
Craft a 3-D hanging installation using at least 75% upcycled/recycled plastics: any additional materials must have a low environmental impact while being able to withstand tropical outdoor conditions.  Dive into the depths of Bahamian ecology, drawing inspiration from the vibrant flora and majestic fauna that grace our shores. Your creation will not only captivate audiences but also catalyze change, shedding light on the urgent need to protect our precious terrestrial and marine ecosystems.

SPECIFICATIONS:
  • Use at least 75% upcycled/recycled plastics.
  • Retain color outdoors without dripping paint, dyes, or any other elements.
  • Photograph well and be durable enough to withstand visitor interaction.
  • Incorporate materials such as plastics, glass, rubber, and other recycled items that can be left outdoors.
  • Be weighted down to prevent excessive swinging in the wind.
  • Must be a weight of no more than approximately 200 pounds.
  • Installation must be interactive, inviting visitors to touch, feel, and connect with the message it embodies.
  • Bonus: Include brand recognition for Sand Dollar, New Providence Ecology Park, or Atlantis Resort Paradise Island for potential additional funding.

AWARD:

Tin Ferl Pop-Up Collective will provide a financial stipend and payment of $1,250.00 to each selected artist (maximum 2), along with full artist profiles and exposure to a global audience. And for those who dare to champion our partners, there’s an opportunity for additional funding to fuel your creative endeavors*.

*Additional funding is not guaranteed and if granted, will not exceed $500.00.

THE PROCESS:
  1. Submit a 1-2 page mood board. Let your imagination run wild!
  2. Include a list of materials you plan to use and the theme or inspiration behind your artwork.
