On this week’s edition of NAGB’s Blank Canvas, we celebrate some of the artists in the Ninth National Exhibition (NE9). The national exhibition is held every two years and is put together from an open call for works to Bahamian artists—living nationally and internationally—or artists living and working in The Bahamas.
We hear from Dave Smith, Averia Wright and Jodi Minnis (who is exhibiting a collaborative piece with Dr. Ian Bethell Bennett) about their very materially different works—one is a painting, one a bronze sculpture and one a video piece—that tackle similar issues: our conflicted relationship with the tourism industry and how that industry affects and changes our own culture and environment.
This year’s edition “The Fruit and The Seed” opens on Thursday, December 13th at 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Join us today and every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on Guardian Talk Radio 96.9 FM.
