Antonius Roberts (b. 1958, Nassau, Bahamas) received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of the Arts, Philadelphia, P.A.) in 1981. Roberts commonly uses reclaimed wood as his sculpture medium, a choice rooted in ideals of conservation, preservation, and spirituality: the driving motifs of his work. Together, his use of indigenous materials and images of the sacred work to record, re-create, and remember living histories of Afro-Bahamians. His work has been exhibited locally and internationally, earning multiple awards. Roberts works and lives in Nassau, Bahamas and is founding curator of The Central Bank of The Bahamas Art Competitions and Gallery. His art gallery is located in the historic Hillside House on Cumberland Street.
