Curatorial Department

The NAGB’s Curatorial Department is responsible for the National Collection’s maintenance and upkeep. Our Curatorial Assistants and Trainees manage collections management, database management, the organisation and conservation of the National Collection. Duties extend to the maintenance of the museum’s gallery space, organisation of exhibitions, the safe construction and deconstruction of exhibitions, all forms of artistic, cultural and historical research. The Curatorial Department is also charged with curatorial programming and events that coincide with the museum’s exhibitions.

As a result, interested individuals will need to have good interpersonal and people skills, patience and be able to do physical labour.

Education & Outreach Department

The Education & Outreach Department is responsible for creating, organising and facilitating programmes that will appeal to and educate the public about Bahamian artists, art and history. These programmes usually coincide with the NAGB’s exhibition with duties extending to developing community and island outreach programmes; along with developing educational materials for exhibitions as a part of educational product development. Education is responsible for public and teachers’ workshops, film series, All-Star Amateur Artists Night, recruiting volunteers and interns, school tours and visits among other duties.

Interested individuals must be creative, be willing to work with others. Additionally, prospective team members should be able-bodied and able to perform some physical labour.

Library

Interested individuals will learn how to document and archive any news articles about the NAGB and Bahamian artists. Key components included heavy reading and research.

Communications & Development Department

The Communications & Development Department is responsible for managing and maintaining the NAGB’s reputation within mass media communication mediums. The team communicates the museum’s activities to the general public and aboard.

Interested individuals must be computer illiterate, possess excellent communications skills, have a personable personality and have a designated interest.

Membership

Membership is a key aspect of the Communications & Development Department. This critical function is committed to assisting persons interested in becoming a part of the NAGB family. Community support assists in raising funds toward the Acquisitions Fund, which is used to purchase art for the National Collection. The department is responsible for promoting the membership packages that include: discounts on NAGB products and activities that the gallery host, and free admissions to exhibitions. Membership is allotted on a yearly basis and at the end of each year, the department contacts members to encourage membership renewal for the following year. The promotion and execution of better membership records is a top priority.

Interested individuals will assist with communication preparations and executions. Along with assisting the department with implementing new promotion ideas.

Office Management

Office Management is at the core of organising all important documents that are important in maintaining the business aspect of the museum intact.

Interested individuals will be assisting in updating the filing system, database input and implementing a facility rental package.
