“Those from Shallow Waters” is a collection of shorts about the inhabitants of The Bahamas (derived from the Spanish “baja mar,” meaning shallow seas). The collection tells the unique and contemporary stories about born-and-bred Bahamians and those who have made The Bahamas their home.

So what is a tru-tru Bahamian, you might ask? Well, we are a people passionate about and committed to our greatest dreams and living our purpose in a small, archipelagic island nation.

The world might feel a little bit different if the image of Bahamians lay in our local narratives, rather than in the tropical ideal we have put forward for hundreds of years. We know representation is key to how others see us, but it is also crucial to how we see and know ourselves, and this series of short documentaries gives much-needed light to those shining in our everyday Bahamas.

See the series in our Project Space Room from September 19th through October 8th, 2017.
