Reporting from the Cancer Society’s Freedom Kids Workshop at the NAGB

On Saturday, March 25, 2017, the NAGB had the pleasure of hosting 18 children from the Cancer Society’s Freedom Kids programme. The children and their chaperones were given a guided tour of the National Exhibition and were introduced to artist Jordanna Kelly, who led them in an engaging and exciting workshop inspired by her NE8 work, “Discarded Pearls”.

As sand was carefully spooned onto a clean surface, observed through the lens of a magnifying glass, poured layer by layer into a clear container, then carefully labeled – the activity began to take on the appearance of an archaeological dig! The combination of scientific exploration and artistic practice proved to be a heady mix and the children were completely captivated.
